University of Albany's Joe Greene Leads Men's Outdoor Track and Field on Second Day of IC4A Championship - UAlbany Sports 2009

Princeton, N.J. – University at Albany’s Joe Greene ran the fastest time in qualifying for the 400-meter intermediate hurdles finals and anchored the 4x400-meter relay which posted the second-best mark in the preliminaries to lead the men’s outdoor track and field team at the 133rd Annual IC4A Championship on Saturday, May 16 at Princeton University’s Weaver Stadium. The three-day competition concludes on Sunday.

The Great Danes got their first points of the meet in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Ricardo Estremera broke his own school record in the event by turning in a fourth-place time of 8:48.47, which was almost six seconds faster than his previous standard.

UAlbany accumulated five more points in the men’s long jump. Felipe Reyes finished sixth with a season-best leap of 24-feet, 3.25-inches to meet the NCAA regional qualifying standard. Valete Graham had a seventh-place mark of 23-10.25.

Greene and Alie Beauvais recorded the two fastest times in the trials of the 400m hurdles. Greene clocked in at 50.19 seconds, while Beauvais finished in 51.33. John Moore broke the school record in the 1,500-meter run for the second straight week, clocking in a second-place performance in the preliminaries. His time of 3:45.88 was almost a two-second improvement from the mark he set at the New York City Qualifying Challenge. In addition, Tyler Fogarty met the NCAA regional standard for the first time this season in the 800-meter run. He finished 11th overall in 1:50.39.



The Great Danes also had all three of their relay teams qualify for Sunday’s finals. Most notably, the 4x400-meter relay consisting of Andrew Overbaugh, Beauvais, Jeffery Barnes and Greene won its heat in 3:11.55, which was the second-fastest time of the day.
