UAlbany Volleyball Sweeps UMBC In 3 Sets, Retaining Top Position In America East Conference

Baltimore, Md. – Senior middle blocker Kamisha Kellam recorded a match-high 11 kills to lead the UAlbany volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of UMBC in America East Conference volleyball action on Friday evening. The Great Danes, now the lone undefeated team in the league, improved to 14-8 overall and 6-0 in conference play with their eighth consecutive win. UAlbany swept the Retrievers with scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-16.

Kellam, who also recorded two block assists in the match, tallied a .364 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Amanda Cowdrey finished with nine kills and eight digs and added two total blocks and two service aces, while classmate Brooke Stanley notched 30 assists and eight digs in the match. Freshman libero Laurie Gonzalez led the team defensively with 13 digs.

Alyssa Lang paced UMBC (15-8, 4-2) with nine kills while Sarah Hill added eight for the Retrievers. Ashley Oscars led the team with 10 digs to go along with six kills, while setter Alexandria Spaay tallied 16 assists, five digs and one block assist.

The two teams will meet again on Sunday, Oct. 26, taking to the court at 2 p.m.
