UAlbany Tennis Defeats Marist, 6-1, in Non-Conference Action

Albany, N.Y. – The UAlbany tennis team defeated Marist 6-1 in non-conference action on Friday, March 7 at The Bubble to improve to 11-2 on the season. The Great Danes won five of six singles matches in straight sets.

Freshman Susan Ma, the reigning America East Conference performer of the week, won her eighth straight match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Erin Godly at No. 2 singles. Marist’s Christine Ong topped Aimee Kern topped 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) at first singles. At No. 3 singles, junior Kim Weltman won in straight sets over Cassie Strange by the scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Freshman Charlotte Tatler picked up her 10th singles win of the spring season with a 6-2, 6-1 at fourth singles against Alexa Strange. Laine Mackey topped Emily Zampello 6-0 in the first set and 6-1 in second set at No. 5 singles, while senior Amanda Hall won at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0, over Retta Byron.

In doubles play, Mackey and Hall were victorious over Ong and Cassie Strange, 8-5, at the No. 2 spot. At third doubles, Weltman teamed with Caitlin Crowley to defeat Zampello and Natalie Fouche 8-0. Godly and Alexa Strange registered an 8-5 win at first doubles over the UAlbany tandem of Kern and Ma.

UAlbany (11-2) returns to the courts on Tuesday, March 11 at Colgate at 3 p.m.
