UAlbany Sports Information
ALBANY, N.Y. – After tying in the season opener, the University at Albany (1-0-1) men’s soccer program earned its first victory of the 2016 season with a win over visiting Lafayette College (0-2-0) 1-0 on Tuesday night.
It was the second consecutive home game for the Great Danes, before they embark on a five game road trip. “I thought tonight was a very mature performance,” said head coach Trevor Gorman. “Lafayette is a very good team, they’re very organized. They’re difficult to play against, and difficult to score on. We were pleased to keep up our tempo throughout the game.”
The first and only goal of the game came in the 10th minute, when Afonso Pinheiro ripped a shot from the top of the box past the Lafayette goalkeeper, Brad Seeber (0-2-0). Pinheiro was set up on a through ball from Carlos Clark. “The early goal helps, said Gorman, “and we’re confident about the way we went about our business.”
