University of Albany Women’s Tennis Hits the Trail for First NCAA Tournament Match-up at No. 12 Oklahoma State - UAlbany Sports 2016
STILLWATER, OKLA. – University at Albany women’s tennis (14-7) will face the No. 12-seeded Oklahoma State Cowgirls (24-4) out of the Big 12 on Friday, May 13 in the NCAA First Round. The 2:00 PM EST match winner meets the winner of the earlier match between Arkansas (16-13) and Tulsa (21-4).
The Great Danes enter Friday’s competition having shut out five of their last six opponents, defeating Stony Brook 4-2 in the America East final for their first Division I conference title and NCAA automatic bid. Gordon Graham & co., have six-straight wins, the most consecutive victories for the squad since the 2007-08 campaign.
Freshman Jovana Kenic took America East Player and Rookie of the Year honors, after dominating the No. 1 singles spot throughout the season. Dajana Ognjenovic, Alba Sala and Paulina Torres joined Kenic on the America East All-Conference team, and Torres garnered Most Outstanding Player in the tournament recognition.
The Cowgirls are No. 12 in the Oracle/ITA rankings, behind ITA Player to Watch Vladica Babic. Head Coach Chris Young and the Pokes have yet to lose at home this year (16-0) and enter Friday on a 13-match winning streak.
