Albany, N.Y. - Christina Patrick scored her second overtime goal in as many days to lead UAlbany to a 1-0 win over Hofstra on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Turf Field. Sunday was the conclusion of the 2010 Captial Land Classic hosted by the Great Danes.
After a scoreless regulation, the teams went to the extra period, UAlbany's second overtime game of the season. With just over five minutes to play, Patrick dribbled into the circle with a one-on-one with Hofstra goalkeeper Amanda Heyde. Coming in from the right, Patrick dodged left to pull Heyde out of the cage and slipped the ball into the lower right corner to end the game.
Both teams had scoring opportunities late in the game, but neither goalkeeper would yield to the opposing offense. UAlbany's Kristi Troch made five saves in just over 48 minutes of action, while Heyde stopped seven shots from the Great Danes in a complete-game effort for Hofstra (0-2). Starter Christine Hoffman stopped one shot in the first half for UAlbany. The Great Danes held a slight 14-11 advantage in shots, and led 4-2 on penalty corner opportunities.
UAlbany (2-0) on Sept. 4, visiting Patriot League opponent Bucknell at 1 p.m.
