University of Albany Women's Volleyball Closes Out 2009 Season With 3-0 Win Over American at University Gym - UAlbany Sports 2009


Albany, N.Y. - Teresa Coppiellie recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs to lead UAlbany to a 3-0 sweep of American in the final match of the season at University Gymnasium on Saturday, Nov. 28. The Great Danes won with set scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-11.

UAlbany was in control from the beginning, recording a .366 hitting percentage for the match, while holding the Eagles to a .085 clip. Casey Wright posted a .667 hitting percentage, recording six kills to go along with six total blocks. America East Conference Player and Setter of the Year Brooke Stanley led all players with a .714 hitting percentage, recording five kills to go along with a match-high 31 assists, eight digs, and four total blocks. Laurie Gonzalez finished with a match-best 12 digs for the Great Danes, who outblocked the Eagles, 12-3, and recorded six service aces.

American (18-13) was paced by right side hitter Angelina Waterman, who recorded a team-best 11 kills and added 10 digs. Magdalena Tekiel and Cassandra Ricketts added seven kills each for the Eagles, while Cynammon Burns led the team defensively with 11 digs. Krysta Cicala finished with 30 assists and one of American's three service aces.

UAlbany wraps up the 2009 season at 22-9 overall. The Great Danes won their third straight regular-season title before falling to Binghamton in the America East Conference Championship match.
