Baltimore, Md. - Teresa Coppiellie recorded a career-high 18 kills and 16 digs, while Brooke Stanley finished with 50 assists and 17 digs to lead UAlbany to a 3-1 win over UMBC in America East Conference volleyball action on Friday evening. With the win, the Great Danes move to 8-0 in league play and clinch the top seed for the upcoming conference tournament. UAlbany won the match with set scores of 25-18, 22-25, 25-20 and 25-21.
The Great Danes had three players reach double-digit kill totals, led by Coppiellie, who also managed a .340 hitting percentage. Valerie Sourbeer and Hillary White each recorded 14 kills, while Laurie Gonzalez and Abbey Wexel led the team defensively with 12 and 10 digs, respectively. UAlbany also outblocked the Retrievers, 11-7, led by six total blocks by Casey Wright (Ballston Spa). Five Great Danes finished with multiple blocks, while Stanley also recorded two service aces in addition to finishing with her 10th double-double of the season.
Alyssa Lang paced UMBC (13-10, AE 5-3) with 14 kills and 11 digs to go along with three service aces, while Naomi Bush added 13 kills for the Retrievers. Setter Kira Giles also recorded a double-double for UMBC with 23 assists and 14 digs while Alexandria Spaay added 24 assists.
UAlbany (18-8, AE 8-0) remained the only undefeated team in conference play with its 14th straight victory. The Great Danes will return to action on Sunday, visiting Stony Brook for an America East match at 1 p.m.
