Baseball's Woods Taken By San Francisco Giants In Eighth Round Of 2016 MLB Draft - UAlbany Sports 2016
ALBANY, N.Y. – Junior right-handed pitcher Stephen Woods was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the eighth round (No. 245 overall) of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft, Friday evening.
Woods, a native of Dix Hills, N.Y., accrued a 4-5 overall record and a 5.57 ERA in his junior campaign at the University at Albany. Making 12 starts on the mound, Woods logged 88 strikeouts in 64.2 innings. As a sophomore, Woods was named second team all-conference by the America East.
Out of high school, Woods was picked in the sixth round (No. 188 overall) by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2013 MLB Draft, but chose not to ink a deal.
Woods is the highest drafted Great Dane in program history.
