University of Albany's Scannapieco, Morris Earn Victories At Nittany Lion T&F Challenge - UAlbany Sports 2013
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The University at Albany men’s indoor track and field program featured seven IC4A qualifying performances Saturday afternoon at Penn State’s Nittany Lion Challenge.
Junior Alfonso Scannapieco highlighted the field with his first-place 16-04.75 pole vault leap. Classmate Kareem Morris also finished first with a 60m dash time of 6.92, which qualified him for the IC4A Championship later in the season. Donald Williams Jr. earned second in the event, also with an IC4A proficient time of 6.94.
Other IC4A qualifiers included sophomore John DeLallo (mile), Donald Williams (60m), Alex Petit-Frere (400m), Stephen Crouse (triple jump), and the 4x400m relay squad.
DeLallo placed second with a personal-best 4:13.52 in the mile. Petit-Frere finished third in the 400m with a time of 49.10, while Crouse earned second in the triple jump with a leap of 47-10.50. Already hitting the qualifying mark this season, Alexander Bowen Jr. placed second in the high jump with a program-record 7-01.00 mark.
The 4x400m relay team consisting of Taariq Jones, Charles Karam, Petit-Frere, and Jonathon Santana placed third in the event with a time of 3:17.36.
Other strong performances included Chris Buchanan’s second-place run of 8:35.74 in the 3,000m, while Ethan Clary placed fourth with an 8:41.23 mark. In addition, Shane Wagner (8.41) and Rudje Beckford (8.44) finished fourth and fifth in the 60m hurdles.
In the field, Kareem Morris (22-04.50) and Brendan Behan (40-07.50) both placed fourth in the long jump and shot put, respectively.
The Great Danes are back in action Friday, when they host the UAlbany Great Dane Classic at the NYC Armory.
