UAlbany Splits Matches with Jacksonville and Clemson at Big Orange Volleyball Bash


Clemson, S.C. - Casey Wright finished with 22 kills and 10 total blocks as UAlbany split matches with Jacksonville and Clemson on the second day of the Tigers' Big Orange Bash. The Great Danes defeated Jacksonville in straight sets with scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-19, earlier in the day before falling in three sets to Clemson with scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-21.

Wright paced the Great Danes against Jacksonville, finishing with a match-high 13 kills to go along with six total blocks and two service aces, while hitting .600. Teresa Coppiellie added eight kills and 11 digs, while libero Laurie Gonzalez led all players with a match-best 24 digs. Freshman setter Kaley Jacobson totaled 30 assists and five digs. The Great Danes recorded six service aces and nine total blocks as a team.

Kathryn Kane led Jacksonville with eight kills and nine digs. Setter Kendall Courtney finished with 27 assists and five digs, while Ashley August recorded 10 digs for the Dolphins. Jacksonville was held to a .096 hitting percentage and managed just four total blocks in the match.

Wright, who was named to the all-tournament team, led the team against Clemson with nine kills and four blocks. Jacobson finished with 26 assists and eight digs while Gonzalez, who also earned all-tournament team honors, totaled a team-high 14 digs. Sophomore Gabby Whitworth also finished with double-digit digs, recording 10 in the match.

Clemson (3-0) was paced by tournament MVP Sandra Adeleye who totaled 11 kills in the final match of the weekend. Serenat Yaz finished with a double-double of 10 kills and 12 digs, while the Tigers were led defensively by Cansu Ozdemir with a match-high 17 digs. Setter Lacy Hayes finished with 24 assists, eight kills and seven digs. Clemson had 10 total blocks as a team, led by Brooke Kohler, who recorded seven block assists.

UAlbany (2-1) will return to action next weekend at the Campus USA Credit Union Invite, hosted by Florida.
