University of Albany's Nasim Siddeeq Named Division I Indoor Track Northeast Region Field Athlete of the Year - UAlbany Sports 2009

New Orleans, La. – University at Albany’s Nasim Siddeeq has been chosen Division I Indoor Track & Field Northeast Region Field Athlete of the Year, as announced on Thursday, March 12 by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Athletes were selected in nine regions on the eve of the 2009 NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas.

Siddeeq, a junior from New Hampton, N.Y., was voted the America East Conference Championship’s Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet when he led the Great Danes to their fourth consecutive indoor title. Siddeeq established a conference meet record when he won the triple jump with a leap of 51-feet, 7.25-inches, a school record at the time. The jump was also an NCAA provisional mark. In addition, he finished second in the conference long jump at 23-8.75.

Siddeeq also posted a fourth-place finish in the triple jump when UAlbany captured its first-ever IC4A championship in Boston last weekend. A transfer from Robert Morris, Siddeeq jumped 51-plus feet on three occasions during the indoor season, including a first-place showing at the Great Dane Classic and an eighth-place effort at the University of Arkansas’ Tyson Invitational.

Track Notes: UAlbany’s Luke Schoen will compete in the pole vault on Friday at the 2009 NCAA Championships, held at Texas A&M University ... Schoen, the America East Conference champion, enters the competition with the eighth-best national mark, as he cleared the bar at 17-feet, 9-inches at the NYU FastTrack Invitational on Feb. 27 ... Schoen was fifth in this event at the 2008 NCAA outdoor championship and became the program’s first Division I All-America pole vaulter.
