UAlbany Track and Field Teams Cruise to First-Place Finishes at New York Relays

New York, N.Y. – Senior Arina Gerasimova set a new school record in the triple jump and freshman Tyler Fogarty qualified for the USA Junior Nationals in the 800-meter run to lead the UAlbany men’s and women’s track and field teams to first place finishes at the New York Relays at Icahn Stadium. The men’s team cruised to victory with 291 points, while the women’s team recorded 233 points for a commanding win.

Gerasimova, also the program-record holder in the indoor triple jump, was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Female Performer after registering a first-place leap of 41-feet, 10.75-inches to establish the new record and qualify for the ECAC and NCAA East Regional meets. Junior Jenn Gurrant recorded a second-place leap of 41-feet, 2.50-inches to also qualify for the ECAC and NCAA East Regional meets and surpassed the previous school record set by Sarah Charles at the UAlbany Classic on April 21, 2007. Gurrant also placed first in the long jump with a distance of 17-feet, 6.75-inches and was a member of the second-place 4x100-meter relay team. Gurrant combined with Kamilah McShine, Christen Griffin and Sarah Lapierre for a time of 48.74 seconds.

The Great Danes’ 4x800-meter relay team of Danielle Trimpop, Zuliana Fontanez, Esperanza Blanco and Laura Cummings turned in an ECAC-qualifying time of 9:11.02 to place first. UAlbany also received first place finishes from freshman Kristine Mun in the 5,000-meter run (18:17.13), senior Brenna Militello in the high jump (5-3.75), freshman Kadine Johnson in the discus throw (136-1) and sophomore Sineaid Corley in the hammer throw (142-7).

On the men’s side, Fogarty was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Male Performer after winning the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.65 to qualify for the IC4A and USA Junior National meets. Fogarty teamed with Andrew Overbaugh, Joe Belokopitsky and Jared Jupin to finish first in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 8:02.39.

The Great Danes recorded first place and IC4A-qualifying performances from junior Jean Juste in the 110-meter hurdles (14.79), sophomore Valete Graham in the long jump (23-8), junior Michael McCadney in the triple jump (48-3.50), sophomore Luke Schoen in the pole vault (16-4.75) and freshman Wilfredo de Jesus Elias in the hammer throw (181-0.50). Junior Brian Yurkewecz won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:54.42, while the 4x100-meter relay team of Raphael Jean-Baptiste, Dieuseul Joseph, Drew Harrison and Jeffery Barnes took second place in an IC4A-qualifying time of 41.72 seconds.

UAlbany returns to action on Thursday, April 24 at the Penn Relays.
