University of Albany Football's Gontarek Picks Up Third CAA Rookie Of The Week Honor - UAlbany Sports 2014

RICHMOND, Va. -- University at Albany freshman wide receiver Josh Gontarek has been named the CAA Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, announced Monday by the conference office. The honor marks UAlbany’s eighth CAA accolade this fall.

GONTAREK NOTES:  True freshman Josh Gontarek led UAlbany with eight receptions for 70 yards and an 8-yard touchdown grab in the Great Danes’ 49-24 loss to No. 2 New Hampshire … He led UAlbany to its first points of the game -- Facing 4th-and-3 on the UNH-20, Fiacchi connected a 13-yard pass to Gontarek, preserving the drive that led to a field goal … Gontarek also sparked UAlbany’s 21 straight points in a three-minute span, receiving an 8-yard TD pass from Fiacchi with 13:23 minutes left in the game – UAlbany recovered fumbles on the next two kickoffs, eventually resulting in two more touchdowns … Gontarek leads UAlbany with 45 receptions, 498 receiving yards (55.3/game), and six touchdowns in his rookie campaign.

In addition to Gontarek, New Hampshire wide receiver R.J. Harris was named the Offensive Player of the Week, James Madison defensive lineman Sage Harold and Richmond linebacker Omar Howard were named Co-Defensive Players of the Week, and William & Mary running back Kendall Anderson earned the Special Teams Player of the Week honor.
