UAlbany's Nowicki's Late Goal Helps Push Women's Soccer In 1-1 Tie Against Syracuse

Syracuse, N.Y.- Senior forward Regina Nowicki scored her first goal of the season to give UAlbany the 1-1 draw against Syracuse on Friday, August 24 at SU Soccer Stadium. The tie puts UAlbany at 0-0-1 and will face UMass on Sunday, August 26 at 1pm on Rudd Field.

With the Great Danes down by one in the 72nd minute, Regina Nowicki received the ball from teammate Kelly Kempf in the top right corner of the goalkeeper box and lofted a shot just over the head of Syracuse goalkeeper Brittany Anghel to tie the game at one.

Both teams would have chances in both overtimes with the Orange tallying 10 shots (five on net) and the Great Danes with its lone shot on net. The match would end in a draw to give UAlbany its first overall point in the standings in non-conference play.

Syracuse would get on the scoresheet first with Hanna Strong scoring her first career goal in the 30th minute to put the Orange up 1-0. Senior forward Jenna Rickan set the play up in the middle with a throug ball straight to Strong's foot.

The Orange had the advantage in both shots, 22-6, and in corners, 13-0.

UAlbany goalkeeper Jackie Ubert made seven saves and Syracuse goalkeeper Anghel tallied three saves.
