Cambridge, Mass. - Senior guard Cassandra Callaway was named the America East Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Callaway led the Great Danes to a 1-1 week, including a dominant 72-48 win over cross-town rival Siena on Saturday.
Against the Saints, Callaway scored a career-high 24 points, all in the second half. She finished the game going 7-for-7 from the foul line and 3-for-5 from long range, and also compiled three assists, two steals and two rebounds. Earlier in the week at Long Island, the Bayonne, N.J. native netted 12 points, hitting four shots from beyond the three-point arc, and recorded three rebounds, three steals and two assists.
For the week, Callaway averaged 18 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game while hitting 7-of-14 three-point attempts. She shot 40.7 percent (11-for-27) from the floor overall in the two games. This season, she is averaging a career-best 12.4 points per game and ranks 10th in the conference. She also ranks fourth in America East with 90.5 percent free-throw shooting and eighth with 2.6 assists per game.
