UAlbany's Tim Ambrose Named America East Conference Basketball Player of the Week


Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Tim Ambrose has been chosen America East Conference Player of the Week in men's basketball, as announced on Monday, Dec. 6 by the conference office. Ambrose, a 6-foot senior, won the weekly award for the second time in his career.

A native of Brentwood, N.Y., Ambrose scored 27 points, two off his career-high, in last Saturday's 88-82 overtime win against Siena. Ambrose, who made 9-of-18 from the field and 8-of-10 from the line, added seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. He netted 20-plus points for the 17th time as a collegian and has scored in twin figures in all nine games this season.

Ambrose scored the first basket of the extra period and gave his team an 86-82 lead on a pair of free throws with 18.3 seconds remaining. UAlbany ended a five-game series losing streak and produced its first win in the Capital Region rivalry since 2004. Ambrose is fifth in the America East in scoring (16.9 ppg), plus is fourth in assists (3.8 pg) and fifth in steals (1.7 pg).

Paw Prints: UAlbany (4-5) has a three-game win streak for the first time since January 2009 ... UAlbany and Siena met for the 50th time ... the two teams have played five overtime games, including three since the series was renewed in 2001 ... UAlbany posted its first OT win against Siena since Feb. 25, 1967 ... Tim Ambrose moved into 16th place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,204 career points ... Logan Aronhalt added 24 points against Siena, his fourth 20-plus game of the season ... Aronhalt and Ambrose are the 19th UAlbany tandem to score 20-plus in the same contest at the Division I level ... Blake Metcalf, a 6-foot-9 sophomore, added a career-best 11 points off the bench ... UAlbany travels to Yale on Monday, Dec. 6 for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off (WOFX-980 AM).
