Albany, N.Y. – The University at Albany women’s basketball program will welcome 15 elementary schools to the NCAA’s Commitment to Education Day, sponsored by SEFCU, on Wednesday, Feb. 6. The day features an America East Conference contest between UAlbany and Boston University. Tip-off is 12 noon at SEFCU Arena. The game will be televised in the Capital Region on Time Warner Cable (TW3).
Students will participate in various activities throughout the day. The school-age children will start by taking a guided tour of UAlbany’s athletic facilities, led by nearly a dozen members of the school’s coaching staffs. UAlbany student-athletes will also sign autographs, while cheerleaders will conduct a face-painting session. Students will also take part in various educational sessions, covering nutrition, math, geography, social studies and physical education.
All students will meet Damien the Dane, receive t-shirts and participate in a basketball-shooting session at University Gymnasium.
Participating area schools include Red Mill School, Van Corlear Elementary, Philip J. Schuyler Academy, Lynwood Elementary, Sheridan Preparatory, Howe Magnet School, Westmere Elementary, Brighter Choice Charter School, Eagle Point Elementary, Doane Stuart School, Niskayuna Schools, Woodlawn, School No. 19, Bethlehem Children and Rensselaer Park.
