Vestal, N.Y. – UAlbany’s Freddie Wills won the long jump in setting the school record to lead the Great Danes to a second-place finish in a three-way meet with Syracuse and Binghamton at the Events Center. Binghamton swept both team competitions with the men scoring 137 points, while the Bearcat women tallied 119. The UAlbany men registered 132 points and the women recorded 116 for second place.
Wills, who registered a leap of 24-feet, 3.5-inches, broke the previous record of 23-11.75 set by Valete Graham on Friday at Arkansas’ Tyson Invitational. The Great Danes registered first-place finishes in six events. On the track, Garrett Askew won the 55-meter hurdles in 7.81 seconds, Andrew Overbaugh took first in the 400-meter dash (51.19) and Jon Hilbert was victorious in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:18.32. In the field, UAlbany swept the jumping events. Freshman Anthony Collica won the high jump (6-6.25) and Dong Ning Hu registered a first-place leap in the triple jump (46-5.25) to go with Wills’ long jump win.
In the women’s competition, freshman Kadine Johnson won both throwing events with tosses of 43-feet, 4.50-inches in the shot put and 50-feet, 8.25-inches in the weight throw. Junior Melissa Lee sprinted to a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash (59.42), while Danielle Trimpop won the 1,000-meter run in 3:05.93. Freshman Tiffany Sprenkels had an ECAC-qualifying leap of 39-feet, 8-inches in the triple jump.
The Great Danes return to the track on Friday, February 22 in Boston, Mass. for the America East Conference Championship.

Fayetteville, Ark. – UAlbany’s Michael McCadney placed third in the triple jump to lead the Great Danes on the second day of Arkansas’ Tyson Invitational.
McCadney registered a leap of 50-feet, 4.50-inches to qualify for the IC4A meet. Freshman Wilfredo de Jesus Elias recorded a throw of 51-feet, 5-inches in the weight throw.
In women’s competition, Brenna Militello tied for fourth in the high jump by clearing the bar at 5-feet, 6-inches. In the triple jump, junior Jenn Gurrant placed ninth with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 39-feet, 10.75-inches.
The Great Danes return to the track on Friday, February 22 in Boston, Mass. for the America East Conference Championship.
