Buffalo, N.Y. – Junior middle blocker Kamisha Kellam recorded a match-high 21 kills to lead the UAlbany volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Buffalo on the second day of the Western New York Invitational, held at Buffalo’s Alumni Arena. The Bulls took the first game, 30-27, before the Great Danes swept the next three with scores of 30-23, 30-20 and 30-10.
Kellam, who finished with a .778 hitting percentage en route to being named to the All-Tournament team, led a group of four players who finished with double-digit kills for UAlbany. Freshman outside hitter Amanda Cowdrey recorded 18 kills and completed her second double-double with 10 digs. Cowdrey also tallied four service aces and three block assists. Senior middle blocker Ashley Crenshaw added 14 kills and a match-high six total blocks while sophomore outside hitter Valerie Sourbeer notched 12 kills. Freshman libero Tawny Dahmes led the Great Danes defensively with 14 digs. Brooke Stanley and Samantha Jacobson split the setting duties, recording 30 and 28 assists, respectively.
Marisa Hornbaker was the only player for Buffalo to reach double-digit kills with 11. Kristein Bignell and Maria Mezzadri added eight apiece, while Lizaiha Garcia paced the Bulls defensively with 20 digs. Lindsey Schlegel finished with 33 assists for Buffalo (1-7).
UAlbany (2-3) will visit Syracuse on Monday at 3 p.m.
