University of Albany's Abbey Wexel Earns Final America East Conference Setter of the Week Award of 2010 Season - UAlbany Sports 2010
Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Abbey Wexel was named the America East Conference Volleyball Setter of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. It is Wexel's third weekly honor of the season, and the final award of the 2010 regular season.
Wexel quarterbacked the Great Danes to two wins in the final week of the conference schedule. The junior led UAlbany to a conference-best team hitting percentage of .269, while averaging 11.11 assists and 1.33 digs per set. In Friday's win over Hartford, Wexel handed out a career-high 56 assists to go along with seven digs, one service ace and one kill. In Sunday's win over Stony Brook that clinched UAlbany's third straight regular-season title, Wexel totaled 44 assists, five digs and one kill.
UAlbany (20-7, AE 10-2) has earned the right to host the 2010 America East Conference Championship Tournament, which will take place on Friday and Saturday. The Great Danes will meet Stony Brook in the second semifinal match on Friday at 7 p.m. at University Gymnasium.
