Art Museum Tour
(UAlbany Art Museum)
Join Museum Director Janet Riker for an informal gallery tour of the exhibition "Uncharted." Set against the larger context of travel and discovery, this exhibition features the work of contemporary artists who consider the perils of navigating unfamiliar waters. Transcending geographic exploration, they explore an imagined world of discovery and adventure in a wide range of media including painting, installation, sculpture, and video. The work included is filled with possibility, fraught with anxiety, and ultimately, tempered by absurdity. Such are the results of beginning any new venture without a map.
"Uncharted" has been designated part of the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain quadricentennial celebration and is part of UAlbany’s theme semester, The Hudson River Mount Marcy to Manhattan, which commemorates the 400th anniversary of the European exploration of the Hudson-Champlain region. The University Libraries invites past and current members of the State College News and Albany Student Press for a demonstration of the online historical student newspaper database and hear about recent developments in the University’s Journalism program. With support from the Friends of the Libraries, the Libraries’ M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections & Archives has scanned and indexed the State College News, 1916 - 1963, and the Albany Student Press, 1964 - 1985. Come learn how to search online and print specific articles from your class years. Current members of the student newspaper staff will also be on hand. Coffee and refreshments will be available.
