West Point, N.Y. – UAlbany’s David Parker (Niskayuna) won two of the final three events in winning the heptathlon to highlight the Great Danes’ performance at Army’s Crowell Open on Saturday afternoon at the Gillis Field House.
Parker, who tallied 2,749 points in the first four events on Friday, finished the competition with a total of 4,888 points. Parker won the 60-meter high hurdles in 8.91 seconds and the pole vault with a height of 14-feet, 3.25-inches to finish just 26 points short of his program record in the heptathlon. Freshman Kevin O’Riley finished third with 3,844 points, while Nick Jones (Shenendehowa) placed eighth with 2,966 points.
Freshman Anthony Collica tied for fourth in the high jump by clearing the bar at 6-feet, 0.5 inches. In the weight throw, Kevin Lee (Shaker) finished fourth with a throw of 46-3.50. Frank Fazzino came in seventh in the shot put with a toss of 44-7.50.
In the women’s competition, Sineaid Corley had a toss of 45-0.50 in the weight throw. Candice Mann had throws of 38-feet, 7-inches in the shot put and 42-feet, 11.75-inches in the weight throw. Freshman Denise Parker cleared a height of 4-feet, 7-inches in the high jump, while senior Valerie Maignan finished the 60-meter hurdles in 9.72 seconds.
UAlbany returns to the track at the Gotham Cup in New York City on Friday, January 18.
