Cambridge, Mass. – University at Albany’s Joe Greene, David Parker and Jenn Gurrant have received indoor track and field weekly honors from the America East Conference, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
Greene, a junior from Rochester, N.Y., was selected as the men’s track performer of the week for the second time this season. Greene earned the honor after setting the program’s record in the 300-meter dash with a first-place time of 33.81 seconds and running the anchor leg on the second-place, record-setting 4x300-meter relay team that finished in a time of 2:17.95 at the Encuentro Atletismo Eugenio Guerra meet on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Sixto Escobar Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Greene also picked up a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.22 seconds.
Parker, a senior from Niskayuna, N.Y., was selected the men’s field performer of the week. Parker was recognized for winning the heptathlon at Army’s Crowell Open on Jan. 11-12. Parker scored 4,898 points, just 16 shy of his own school standard, by taking first in the 60-meter high hurdles (8.91), pole vault (14-3.25) and high jump (6-5) and second in the shot put (36-9.75) and long jump (22-0.75).
Gurrant, a junior tri-captain from Batavia, N.Y., was chosen as the women’s field performer of the week. Gurrant received the honor after a win in the long jump with a leap of 18-feet, 1-inch (5.51m) at the Encuentro Atletismo Eugenio Guerra meet on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Sixto Escobar Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Gurrant was also a member of the 4x300-meter relay team that finished first in a time of 2:47.94, a program record.
The Great Danes return to the track on Friday, Jan 18 at the Gotham Cup in New York City.
