Inside Lacrosse Selects University of Albany as America East Conference Preseason Favorite

Baltimore, Md. – Inside Lacrosse released today Face-Off Yearbook’s preseason conference rankings for the America East Conference. UAlbany has been chosen to defend last year’s conference championship as voted by the America East coaches.

The Great Danes are coming off an NCAA quarterfinal appearance where they were edged by top-ranked Cornell, 12-11, in overtime. Inside Lacrosse chose that nailbiter as the Game of the Year. UAlbany has won four of the last five America East championships after establishing a school-record 15-3 mark last season.

Scott Marr, the 2007 USILA national coach of the year, has 24 letterwinners returning. The Great Danes lost the program’s two all-time leading scorers, but return quality talent led by second-team All-America midfielder Jordan Levine. Goalkeeper Brett Queener and defenseman Craig McDonald were first-team all-conference selections. Midfielders Mike Ammann and Steve Ammann and defenseman Craig Pedley earned second-team All-America East recognition.

Lax Notes: UAlbany’s Jordan Levine has been listed among Inside Lacrosse’s Top 10 Tewaaraton Trophy candidates for 2008 ... Levine, a senior midfielder, had 23 goals and 16 assists in 2007, plus established the program’s Division I single-season record with 91 ground balls ... Inside Lacrosse picked Princeton (Ivy league), Notre Dame (Great Western Lacrosse League) and Siena (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) as the preseason favorites in their conference ... Princeton, Notre Dame and Siena appear on UAlbany’s schedule ...
