David McCarty Named NEC Offensive Player of the Week; Football Remains Third in Mid-Major Polls

Somerset, N.J. – University at Albany’s David McCarty has been selected as the Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Week in football for his performance in last Saturday’s 21-3 victory over Monmouth, as announced by the conference office on Monday, Nov. 12. McCarty, a sophomore tailback from Gansevoort, N.Y., earned the weekly award for the third time this season.

McCarty rushed 28 times for 167 yards and one touchdown against Monmouth. His 67-yard scoring run on a third-and-four play sealed the outcome with 4:07 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Great Danes clinched a share of the conference title with the win. McCarty ran for 100 or more yards for the fourth consecutive game and sixth time this season.

McCarty is ranked 18th nationally among the NCAA Division I FCS rushing leaders at 112.2 yards per game. He became the seventh player in the UAlbany program’s history to reach the 1,000-yard mark last week. McCarty currently has 1,122 yards, the third-best mark in school annals, and nine touchdowns.

UALBANY REMAINS THIRD IN NATIONAL DIVISION I FCS MID-MAJOR POLLS


Albany, N.Y. – Following their 21-3 victory over Northeast Conference opponent Monmouth last Saturday, UAlbany stayed in the third position in both The Sports Network Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Top 10 Mid-Major Poll and Football Gazette mid-major rankings.

The Great Danes, who established the program’s Division I FCS record by winning their sixth straight game last week, are also receiving votes in all three national top-25 polls, including the FCS Coaches and The Sports Network.

UAlbany (7-3, NEC 5-0) has clinched a share of its first conference title since 2003. The Great Danes can win the championship outright at Central Connecticut State this Saturday. Kickoff is 12 noon. The winner of the game will represent the NEC in the Gridiron Classic on Dec. 1 against Dayton, the Pioneer Football League co-champion.

UAlbany’s defense moved up to 14th among the FCS national leaders in rushing yards allowed (111.8 ypg), 16th in scoring against (17.7 ppg) and 27th in total defense (325.5 ypg). The Great Danes are 21st in rushing offense at 203.9 yards per game.
