Buffalo, N.Y. – Tammy Wolf led three players with double digit kills as West Virginia defeated UAlbany, 3-1, in volleyball action at the Western New York Invitational, hosted by the University at Buffalo. The Great Danes took the first game, 31-29, before the Mountaineers rattled off three straight wins with scores of 30-19, 30-24 and 30-28.
Senior middle blocker Ashley Crenshaw led UAlbany with 17 kills while sophomore outside hitter Valerie Sourbeer added 12 kills. Sophomore Kate Eckhardt led the team defensively with 16 digs, while freshman outside hitter Amanda Cowdrey recorded nine kills, 11 digs and three service aces.
Wolf finished with a team-best 14 kills for West Virginia (2-2) while Kristina Gallahan and Abby Tevis tallied 13 kills apiece. Tevis completed the kill-dig double-double with 16 digs for the Mountaineers defensively, while also combining for a team-high five total blocks. Bonnie West recorded a match-high 23 digs.
UAlbany (1-3) will play host team Buffalo on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 2 p.m.
West Virginia (2-2) def. UAlbany (1-3), 3-1 (29-31, 30-19, 30-24, 30-28).
