Albany, N.Y. – University at Albany head women’s basketball coach Trina Patterson announced on Tuesday that Shannon Reid has been hired as an assistant coach.
Reid comes to UAlbany after two seasons at Clayton State University in Morrow, Ga., where she helped lead the Lakers to the 2007 NCAA Division II Final Four. While at Clayton, Reid was responsible for all out-of-season conditioning workouts and weight training development as well as on-court coaching and game management. She coordinated film exchange and scouting and was also instrumental in the recruiting process. In addition, Reid handled study hall and academic monitoring for the Clayton State program.
Clayton State finished 29-6 overall in 2006-07 and captured a Peach Belt Conference championship. The Lakers, who were ranked as high as fourth nationally, made a second-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to her appointment at Clayton State, Reid was an assistant at the University of South Carolina-Aiken, a Division II program in the Peach Belt Conference. Reid helped lead the Pacers to a 19-13 record and an NCAA appearance.
Reid, who played professionally for the Ladies National League in Dublin, Ireland from 2003-04, also spent that year coaching the Mosney Women’s Club and Junior Club in Drogheda, Ireland.
A native of Hudson, N.C., Reid earned her bachelor’s degree in sports management from Pfeiffer University in 2003. Reid, a three-year member of the Pfeiffer women’s basketball team, was named Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference (CVAC) Player of the Year and was a two-time all-CVAC first-team honoree. Reid, who scored more than 1,000 career points in her career for the Falcons, led her team to its first-ever NCAA Tournament. She was a two-time team MVP and the university’s athlete of the year.
