UAlbany Greets Fall Term with Record Number of Applicants
Campus engages in $25M campus beautification and improvement project
ALBANY, N.Y. (August 31, 2006) -- The University at Albany applicant pool for the 2006-07 calendar year surpassed 18,000—a 12 percent increase in freshmen applications above last year and a record number for UAlbany. From that, the University enrolled 2,350 freshmen to the class of 2010—200 fewer students than last year's record class of 2,556. More>>

Diabetes Cases Among Minorities Present Major Challenges for Smaller Cities of New York State, Finds UAlbany CEMHD Report
ALBANY, N.Y. (September 15, 2006) -- The rates of diabetes-related hospitalizations among blacks and the degree of disparity in relation to whites are on par in major upstate cities to what is found in New York City, according the University at Albany's Center for the Elimination of Minority Health Disparities (CEMHD) in a new report. The study, The Quiet Crisis: Minority-Majority Disparities for Diabetes in Upstate New York Cities finds that the rates of hospitalization for blacks living in most upstate cities are typically as high or higher than they are for New York City. The hospitalization rates of blacks exceed the rates for whites by substantial margins in every location. More>>

Underrepresented Minority Physicians Hold Potential for Improving Access to Care for Underserved Populations, According to UAlbany Study

ALBANY, N.Y. (December 14, 2006) -- University at Albany Officer in Charge and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Susan Herbst has launched the second annual University at Albany Reading Project, a program to engage the entire University community in reading a common text. Elder Network Receives Boost from Governor and State Legislators
State provides $800,100 for programs to assist Capital Region seniors

(December 13, 2006) -- The Governor and Legislature today announced $800,100 in state funding for the Elder Network of the Capital Region (ENCR), based at the University at Albany's School of Social Welfare, to establish programs to create sustainable, aging-prepared communities from which exemplary practices will serve as models to augment New York's long-term care policy reform initiatives.
