UAlbany (14-2) is making its fourth NCAA appearance in the last five years. The Great Danes edged UMBC, 15-14, in last Saturday’s conference championship. Frank Resetarits leads the nation in scoring with 54 goals and 21 assists, while Merrick Thomson, the league tournament’s most outstanding player, adds 49 goals and 12 assists.
“I am happy to be home and excited that we are seeded fifth,” said Thomson, whose team will be the first America East lacrosse program to host an NCAA contest. “This shows that we are starting to step out of Syracuse’s shadow and making a name for ourselves and the school.”
Loyola (7-5) returns to the NCAA field for the first time since 2001. The Greyhounds, who garnered an at-large berth with their second-place finish in the ECAC, are in the national tournament for the 15th time. Shane Koppens leads the team in scoring with 18 goals and 26 assists. Goalkeeper Alex Peaty has a 9.43 goals against average with a .562 save percentage.
