University of Albany Women Basketball's Shereesha Richards Earns Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America Honors

NEW YORK CITY – Shereesha Richards has cemented herself as one of the top women’s basketball players in the nation, being named an Honorable Mention All-American for the second straight year by the Associated Press. Richards was the first ever Division I All-American in UAlbany women’s basketball history last year and now is the program’s first ever two-time All-American. Rainny Lesane was a Division III All-American for UAlbany for the 1985-86 season. The senior forward was selected as the America East Player of the Year for the third straight season, also being named to the America East All-Conference First Team and All-Defensive Team. She was recently named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-Region 1 Team and is currently eligible for All-America with the WCBA as well. She also was named to the Naismith Trophy Midseason 30 Team earlier this year.

12-Seed UAlbany Women’s Basketball Battles to the Finish at 4-Seed Syracuse, Ends Historic Season in NCAA Second Round after 76-59 Defeat

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 12-seed UAlbany women’s basketball team had its greatest season in program history come to a close on Sunday afternoon in the Carrier Dome as the Great Danes fell to 4-seed Syracuse 76-59 in the NCAA Second Round. UAlbany earned its first-ever DI NCAA Tournament victory as a program this year and tied its program record single season wins total, finishing with a 28-5 record. The Great Danes also made history as the first basketball team in the America East, women’s or men’s, to win five consecutive conference tournament titles.
